New Blog and Goals for April
If you have ever started a blog or website then you probably know that the very first post is always the hardest to write. Thats why instead of trying to think how what I should post first from all my notes and ideas i thought it better to share a little bit about what this is all about and what goals I have for the first two weeks.
As I write this it is the 23rd of April. It wouldn’t really be right to set a monthly goal so instead it would be better to get ready for a full month in May, leaving the rest of April to start to grow and get everything in place to make this little venture successful. The reason for dating this post is to add urgency for me. This project has been a long time coming. Too much procrastination and time spent doing other things.
What is this all about?
This new blog/project is mostly going to be able how to make money online and money saving techniques, mostly for UK residence but most will apply to anyone. However, there will also be lots of information on other topics as well. On top of this will be monthly goals to keep myself focused, as well as giving myself rewards for hitting these target. It will be all about celebrating the little successes. My weakness is Whisky, so often rewards for my success would be a bottle of really good whisky (I’m sure this project will be no different 🙂 Johnny Walker Blue here I come )
Goals For April
You can tell by now this is more a post to keep me in check for the first few weeks. It wouldn’t really be beneficial to set income targets for what is essentially the 7 days left in April. Instead, it makes more sense to get the foundations in place to be at full pace in May.
By the foundations, what I mean is the key concepts to the website, the layout and design. Also to get a few posts up to share some of the online income techniques I have learnt over the years as well as some new ones that I want to try and document. Also, I need to establish my social media accounts. In anticipation of the start of this website, I have already grown a presence on Pinterest (Please drop me a follow), but will also be starting to get ‘social’ on twitter
Another key goal of the early stages of this website is to ensure that it itself can make an income. By this I don’t mean making people pay for information, but setting up partnerships. The first one and I need to get up and running on this site is one that I have used successfully in the past. That is Adsense. (I will do a separate post on this and link it here shortly). I think it will be really interesting to see how quickly you can get Adsense approval. The last time I went through the process it was on an already established site. I have literally no idea how many posts or what sort of time frame is needed to get an approval this time.
Breaking The Guru’s Rules
If you have spent anytime looking around at what all these so called online guru’s tell you, it is to focus on one small ‘niche’ or top and writing about only that. Personally, I don’t want these kind of restrictions placed upon this website. I want to be able to write about anything. That is my right as a ‘blogger’ (I actually really hate that term, yes I have a blog, I also have many websites, does that make me a Websiter?)
The other ‘Rule’ I am not going to be paying much attention to is the focus on ‘SEO’ (Search Engine Optimisation). Long term, I know that it is important for the search engines to find you and rank you. I mean who doesn’t want to be on the first page of Google?, but do you know how long this actually takes? short term I would much prefer to focus on great content and social media than SEO.
This site is an expression of the things that interest me, and hopefully you the reader. It is possible that you won’t like all of it or find all of it useful, but that is your choice if you want to read it. You can easily syphon through the stuff you want to read or don’t by following me on Twitter, again this is up to you.
